Over the past five years, rental affordability challenges have become acute in many cities, increasing pressure on households experiencing housing insecurity and driving many into homelessness. New research, supported by Zillow Group and building on our prior work, illuminates this challenge by revealing how different communities experience rent pressures, from Los Angeles to Topeka; quantifying the true scale of the nation’s homeless challenge; and identifying the “tipping point” at which the rent burden becomes more deeply tied to rising homelessness.
On Dec. 11, 2018, Zillow Group will present this new research and an expert panel will unpack:
- The differing impact of rising rents on homelessness rates in various communities nationwide
- Potential lessons learned from programs that support Veterans experiencing homelessness
- What federal policy options exist to better equip local leaders to stem housing insecurity at home
