Please read these Official Rules for the Zillow, Inc. (“Zillow”) 2022 HBCU Hackathon Challenge sponsored by Zillow,Inc. (“Zillow”) (the “Challenge”). By participating in the Challenge, you agree to be bound by these Official Rules and represent that you satisfy all of the eligibility requirements below.
Eligibility: The Challenge is open to any student who is at least 18 years old and is enrolled at a Historically Black College or University (“HBCU”) as determined by the U.S. Department of Education. (each an “Eligible Participant”). Participation in the Challenge constitutes entrant’s full and unconditional agreement to these Official Rules, acceptance of the Zillow API Terms of Use, and Zillow’s decisions, which are final and binding in all matters related to the Challenge. Winning a prize is contingent upon fulfilling all requirements set forth herein.
Timing: The Challenge begins on August 11, 2022, at 8:00 a.m. Eastern Time (“ET”) and ends on September 20, 2022, at approximately 11:59 p.m. ET (“Challenge Period”). The registration for the Challenge begins on August 11, 2022 at 8:00 a.m. ET and ends on September 6, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. ET (“Registration Period”). The Challenge is made up of two separate presentation rounds, including (1) a Semi-Final Round and (2) a Final Round (each a “Presentation Round”). Submissions for the semi-final presentations will be accepted beginning on September 12, 2022 at 12:00 a.m. ET until 11:59 p.m. ET. Registered Teams (as defined below) who move on to the final presentations will be announced on September 14, 2022 at 7:30 p.m. ET. The final presentations will be held virtually on September 16, 2022 at 6:15 p.m. ET and end at 7:15 p.m. ET. During the Presentation Rounds, each Registered Team will pitch creative and impactful tech solutions aligned with Zillow’s goal to help consumers overcome obstacles on their journey to find a home (the “Presentation”).
How to Enter: During the Registration Period, each Eligible Participant must enter the Challenge by filling out and submitting a registration form at zillowhbcuhackathon.com. In addition, Eligible Participants must compete in the Challenge in teams of at least two but no more than four (each a “Registered Team”). For clarity, each Eligible Participant must register separately regardless of team size and is limited to one Registered Team. Registered Teams must: (1) have at least two Eligible Participants enrolled in a computer science or computer engineering course or a related major; and (2) be made up of Eligible Participants enrolled at the same HBCU. Each Registered Team will partake in at least one (1) Presentation Round.
Selection of Winners and Prizes: Each Registered Team that participates in the Challenge will be eligible to win. Each Presentation is scored by approximately five (5) individuals evaluating the performance, creativity, social completion, and technical aptitude of each Registered Team and their Presentation. All Registered Teams in each of the Presentation Rounds shall be evaluated according to objective judging criteria, available at: zillowhbcuhackathon.com (“Judging Rubric”). The six Registered Teams with the top highest scores awarded during the semi-final presentations will proceed to the final round of presentations. The three Registered Teams with the top highest scores awarded during the final presentation round will be declared the winners of the Challenge (“Winners”). The Winners of the Challenge will be notified following the final presentation on September 16, 2022, at approximately 7:30 p.m. ET and will be entitled to receive the following (each a “Prize”):
The Winner with the highest score (the “First Place Winner”) will win:
- $25,000.00 to the First Place Winner’s HBCU Computer Science Program(s);
- $20,000.00 to split between each Eligible Participant on the First Place Winner team;
- $500.00 textbook gift card to each Eligible Participant on the First Place Winner team;
- (1) laptop and (1) mouse to each Eligible Participant on the First Place Winner team
The Winner with the second highest score (the “Second Place Winner”) will win:
- $12,000.00 to split between each Eligible Participant on the Second Place Winner team;
- $500.00 textbook gift card to each Eligible Participant on the Second Place Winner team;
- (1) laptop and (1) mouse to each Eligible Participant on the First Place Winner team
The Winner with the third highest score (the “Third Place Winner”) will win:
- $6,000.00 to split between each Eligible Participant on the Third Place Winner team
- $500.00 textbook gift card to each Eligible Participant on the Third Place Winner team;
- (1) laptop and (1) mouse to each Eligible Participant on the First Place Winner team
Prizes: The approximate retail value of all Prizes is eighty-eight thousand and two hundred dollars ($88,200.00 US). All Prizes are non-transferable, and no substitution will be made except as provided herein at Zillow’s sole discretion. The Prizes will be delivered via email, ACH deposit, and/or U.S. Postal Mail (or other delivery service) to the Winners by October 31,2022. Zillow reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to substitute a Prize for one of equal or greater value if any of the Prizes for the Challenge become unavailable for any reason. All federal, provincial, state, and local taxes associated with the receipt or use of any Prize in the Challenge, if any, are the sole responsibility of each winner. Except where prohibited, the potential winner will be required to sign and return a Declaration of Compliance, Liability and Publicity Release ("Declaration") and a Form W-9 (“W-9”) which must be received by Zillow, within seven (7) days of the date notice or attempted notice is sent, in order to claim the prize. If (i) the potential winner of any prize cannot be contacted; (ii) the potential winner fails to sign and return the Declaration and W-9 or provide any other requested information, within the required time period; (iii) the prize is returned as undeliverable; or (iv) if potential winner is otherwise unable to accept the prize as stated, the potential winner forfeits the prize. Receiving a prize is contingent upon compliance with these Official Rules. In the event that the potential winner(s) is disqualified for any reason, Zillow will award the Prize to the Registered Team with the next highest score.
Release: By participating in the Challenge, each Eligible Participant agrees to release and hold harmless Zillow and each of its respective subsidiaries, affiliates, suppliers, distributors, advertising/promotion agencies, and each of their respective parent companies and each such company’s officers, directors, employees, and agents (collectively, the “Released Parties”) from and against any claim or cause of action, including, but not limited to, personal injury, death, damage to or loss of property, or rights of publicity or privacy arising out of participation in the Challenge or receipt, misdelivery, use, misuse, or inability to use any Prize.
Limitations of Liability: The Released Parties are not responsible for (i) incorrect or inaccurate information associated with or utilized in the Challenge or (ii) any injury or damage to persons or property which may be caused, directly or indirectly, in whole or in part, from entrant’s participation in the Challenge, or receipt or use or misuse of any Prize. No more than the stated number of Prizes will be awarded.
